OnSummer By The River: Make & Move - Puppetry & Movement Creative Workshop
Come and make a puppet from recycled materials with an expert puppeteer from Autin Dance Theatre.
The activities will include the making and operating of brown paper Bunraku puppet or a paper fish! Play and workshop your performance skills including learning how to add breath, focus, and weight to your puppets.
Games and movement will be used throughout the workshop for you to learn how to use your bodies creatively and how to translate that into bringing your characters to life!
Fish puppet
Create an decorate your own fish puppet out of paper and manipulate it with a bamboo stick and follow and move with our giant puppet Eko as he moves between Hay's Galleria and the Scoop at our 5pm performance.
Banraku Brown Paper Puppet
Create your own Banraku brown paper puppets, and learn how to breath life into your puppet. You will learn the basics principles of puppetry performance focusing on principles like the use of breath, gravity, fixed point, and storytelling. Games and movement will be used throughout the workshop to teach you how to use your body creatively and how to translate that into bringing the puppets to life!
This workshop accompanies performances of Out of the Deep Blue, an outdoor family spectacle featuring 13-foot-tall Sea Giant Eko and little Violet inspired by environmental themes and stories of friendships.
