Summer By The River: BBC Introducing in London

BBC Introducing in London presenter Jess Iszatt is back at The Scoop to present another sizzling line up of the best emerging talent from the capital.

For this one, she is joined by rising rapper, producer and mulit-instrumentalist Nix Northwest for a special night of emerging artists curated for Summer By The River by Nix and Jess.

Nix Northwest

London's rising rapper, producer and multi-instrumentalist Nix Northwest will take over The Scoop with BBC Introducing's Jess Iszatt. Following the release of his highly anticipated debut album 'Xin's Disappearance' and after selling out his first UK headline tour, Nix returns to London for a one off live show under the sun performing alongside his nearest and dearest. Renowned for his jazz-laden strand of hip-hop, this show promises high energy with loose-knit interplay between vocals and music.

Jianbo

Jianbo is a Chinese-Vietnamese-British rapper who pairs a mid-noughties South London inspired flow with tales of a classic east Asian upbringing - a yin-yang balance of odds, the ends and everything in between.

With a unique tongue-in-cheek brand of UK rap and movie-level music videos, Jianbo has captured the attention of an organic and rapidly growing global facing fanbase as well as critical acclaim.

B-ahwe

Now residing in South London after shaping her sound in Leeds, alt-soul artist B-ahwe’s ability to tell intricately woven stories has begun to turn heads. With a focus on rich vocal arrangements, lush instrumentals and poetic lyricism, she explores themes of femininity, mental health, and relationships, whilst challenging societal ideals.

A recipient of the 2022 Drake YolanDa award, her versatility and arrangement skills have led to her contributing vocals to several artist projects. These include underground UK hip-hop acts Lausse The Cat and Nix Northwest, and jazz-crossover acts Yaatri & Pyjæn.

Industry support has come from New Wave Magazine, Line of Best Fit, and WordPlay, and in Autumn 2022 she was spotlighted as Jamz Supernova’s ‘After Dark Discovery’. Summer 2023 has seen her support US soul icon Curtis Harding across dates in The Netherlands, before returning to the UK to perform at Gilles Petersons' We Out Here Festival.

Hilts

Following his years in The Square – alongside the likes of Novelist – Hilts took himself to Leeds College of Music to study music production, where he developed a jazz-meets-grime fusion under the “Project Hilts” alias. He led an eight-person strong live band to bring his music to life.
