There have been many artists that the singer-songwriter has taken inspiration from, but to name a few that heavily influence his style previously, currently and will do into the future; J. Cole, Notorious BIG, T-Pain, Snoop Dogg and Frank Ocean. From this huge array of choices in the Hip-Hop field, you can bring to envision where production persuasions have been driven from, especially with drum beats and structures.
But with his outstanding singing as well as rapping capabilities, the artist’s identity takes a diversion towards a middle ground that nicely aligns with the R&B field. The melodic sensibilities used to create a warmth, zeal and atmospheric aurora to the music is what makes the singer-songwriters’ masterpieces so unique.

Strawbey’ is the moniker of Norwich born, 21-year-old indie-pop artist Ruben Pope. Having honed his signature, hazy synthpop sound, strawbey released his first EP, ‘Play Pretend’ in 2020, going on to amass circa 1million streams whilst commenting on the secrecy of the queer experience. Working alongside Josh Ager (Sam Fender, Holly Humberstone and Beabadoobee and more) the self-released EP quickly caught the attention of several Spotify editorial playlists such as “Spooky”, “Fresh Finds”, “Lo-fi Indie”, “Dream Pop” “Evening Indie” and “Rainbow” and helped secure festival slots including a triumphant return to Norwich at Wild Paths.
With the follow up to Play Pretend set usher in a bolder sound whilst further exploring the ways in which queer people put on a protective front, strawbey continues to cultivate a loyal fanbase with every passing day.
