Summer By The River: BBC Introducing In London

220616 Bbc Introducing Jess Iszatt Pic 1

BBC Introducing in London presenter Jess Iszatt is back at The Scoop to present another sizzling line up of the best emerging talent from the capital.

Catch three up-and-coming artists in a line up specially curated for Summer By The River by Jess and the BBC Introducing in London team.

Deyaz

21-year-old multidisciplinary artist Deyaz is, in his own words, a “non-confined musician”. Raised in East Ham, London, and of Jamaican/Syrian heritage, his innate connection to music helped him find solace during his turbulent teenage years. His debut ‘WHY NOT’ mixtape is the result of nearly a decade of self-taught musical education, during which his experiences with homelessness, addiction and mental health crises have given his music unique depth. “For me, music comes from a therapeutic place,” he notes.

gglum

gglum is a 19 year old singer/songwriter/producer from Croydon, with huge support from press and radio across her two EPs. She has just released her second EP titled ‘Weak Teeth’ and whilst those touch points remain, gglum draws inspiration from the likes of Radiohead, My Bloody Valentine and Grouper. The EP was made alongside a star studded cast of producers including Mura Masa, Karma Kid, Matt Hales, Jonah Summerfield and Zach Nahome. The stand out track, ‘Don’t Think Twice’ features the vocals of up and coming UK artist, Ray Laurél and was written alongside Dave collaborator and friend of gglum, Kamal.

The young singer/songwriter is set to release the first single from what will be her debut album in the winter of 2022 after a summer of gigs and festivals.

Gretel Hänlyn

Gretel is a 20 y/o singer, songwriter & guitarist from London. Having been raised on a diet of Nick Cave it was no surprise that Gretel picked up a guitar and started writing songs at age 11. As she started going to gigs & fell for Tim Buckley, Nirvana and Wolf Alice, her songwriting morphed into what it is today, a mix of grunge, goth-pop and alt/indie ballads.

Her debut EP - Slugeye - came out in May this year. The lead single - Apple Juice - hit the B-List on 6Music and was Track Of The Week on Radio 1. When Gretel came to play her first show it sold in minutes. A who’s who of the industry in attendance saw Gretel crowned as the hottest new talent in the UK and led to bookings at Green Man, Wilderness, Blue Dot, London Calling and Pitchfork Festival in Paris.
