OnSummer By The River: Lockdown Shake Up
Four young actors, bored and frustrated with zoom, lockdowns, arts cuts and no where to express themselves, stumble across an old unused amphitheatre and there find the platform they needed.
Using imagination, liberation of the stage and the genius of Shakespeare, they begin to express what their time in a pandemic has really felt like. Through darkness and light, loss and loneliness, they also find hope, ‘spark and fire’, and ‘roaring voices’ to share the inspiration and parallels in today’s world and Shakespeare’s time.
Living his whole life in the shadow of the plague, and a time of turbulence and social unrest, Shakespeare created arguably some of the most important, and relevant plays history has ever known. The actors ask their audience to go with them on a journey of speeches and scenes that link the past to the present and show just how vital the arts will always be.
